WOW, the art work is fabulous. Book purchased for Grand-Nephews, but had to read it myself. Really enjoyed the story, but the artwork can stand on it's own.
We usually pick one or two letters per sitting because you can spend so much time on one page. I love looking at this book with my children (age 3 1/2). It's not a traditional sit down and read book, but one where you hunt for words that begin with a specific letter. The drawings are amazing, and we love finding new things every time we look. It's great for thinking about the alphabet and thinking flexibly.
The first things that strikes one in viewing this edition is that the cover is an exceptionally poor reproduction for a book that depends so completely on good appearance - perhaps a failed attempt to save some money or a process that did not stand up over time(). Fortunately the printing inside is serviceable for showing Graeme Base's extraordinary illustrations. Having this book is better than not having any copy of Animalia and the kids will not mind - their imagination will be put to better use with this book than with any computer game :)jebbiii
This is the most gorgeous, fabulous book. My five year old son and 2 year old daughter love it (as do I). We never tire reading it and find something new every time we do. It's hard to find something that all 3 of us enjoy so much--this is definitely it.
It is funny. This book was fun to read because you have to find a boy on each page. Animalia is about the alphabet and things that start with each letter. The illustrations are really silly and detailed. The boy is hard to find. You can find the letter that your name starts with. I hope you like this. Please read it.
